In this visually engaging presentation, Chipollino is the young son of a family of onions. His story takes place in the little town of Limonia where flowers, vegetables and fruits happily live together. Unfortunately, they also share their lives under the rule of a tyrant known as Prince Lemon.

Tom Fagan has risen from his personal tragedy a better, stronger man – and an even more inspired artist. He was recently featured on the WE tv show I Do Over, as an event artist, who in this case was painting a wedding.

Most of his art can be found at TomFagan.com, but he also has a site at LiveEventArtist.com.

If you are interested in having a professional artist at your wedding or event, Tom has been hired to paint around the world and can be contacted at Tom@TomFagan.com

The Bellevue Youth Symphony Orchestra (BYSO) presents the 2011-2012 concert season: “New Classics.” The selected pieces were based on what the young musicians listen to on a daily basis. Music written from the year 2000 to the present day, including themes from video games, movie soundtracks, and scores from musicals, will be performed by all 7 orchestras this season. Each conductor has chosen one composition per concert that features the “New Classics” theme, including a suite from the video game Turok 2, an arrangement of Video Games Live, and several movie soundtracks including Up, Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, How to Train Your Dragon and The Incredibles.

BYSO Music Director and Youth Symphony Conductor, Teresa Metzger-Howe, discussed the importance of not only working on a piece written by living composers, such as Eastside resident Darren Mitchell, but also having Mitchell attend rehearsals of his original video game score for Turok 2. Best known for his award-winning work on Acclaim Entertainments Turok: The Dinosaur Hunter Series, Darren Mitchell has become one of the major Senior Audio Designers in the interactive gaming industry. He has had numerous press reviews, received several awards, and has had his work and career featured on the Discovery Channel.

Lead by conductor Joseph Kempisty, the BYSO Sinfonia division will be performing selections from the original movie soundtrack to Walt Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl on November 20, 2011. During this performance the flute choir and flute orchestra will be joining Sinfonia to create a full orchestral experience. Lead by conductor Barney Blough, the Premiere Orchestra, made up of youth between 10 and 11 will be playing selections from Dreamwork’s How to Train Your Dragon.

The Bellevue Youth Symphony Orchestra is a non-profit organization established to provide a positive and stimulating musical environment for students. BYSO uniquely complements and builds upon both school music programs and private instruction. BYSO encourages the development of musical skills and self-confidence, as participants in all ensembles rehearse orchestral literature which appropriately challenges their skills. For over 46 years our program has provided instrumental music experience to match the ability levels of talented youth from early elementary grades through their college years.

“Kshetram” or “temple” is a thematic portrayal of the heritage of legendary temple cities of India, weaving together ancient poetry, classical music and dance.

This dance production is the brainchild of Lakshmi Sanjay and Sanjay Subramaniam, co-founders and artistic directors of Abhinay Fine Arts, a local non-profit organization that strives to bring classical Indian dance and music performances to the greater Seattle audience.

Local dancers, Bhavana Kudikala, Lakshmi Sanjay, Preetha Anandh, Smitha Krishnan, and Supriya Unnikrishnan, have come together to create this production. It is unique in that, the dancers have incorporated the three different and distinct Indian classical dance forms of Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, and Mohiniattam, to create a lyrical and visually appealing performance.

Ancient tamil poetry from India called “divya prabandams” or “paasurams” form the basis of the production, and it is the connecting thread through the different acts. The “prabandams” were written by the Alvars or poet saints in 8th century AD and describe the Hindu god, Lord Vishnu. They sang in praise of His many forms in temples across India. This production describes the mythology behind 5 of these temples and how they came to exist. The dancers, along with an accomplished music director, have used old songs, composed new ones, and added poetry from the relevant “pasurams” to create a comprehensive history and bring to light little known stories and facts about these temples.

The dancers come together with their different dance forms throughout the production, and also showcase their individual styles while narrating the stories of each temple.

“Kshetram” debuts on Sunday, Sept 25th at The Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue. The show will begin at 3:30p.m.

This program is jointly presented by Vedic Education and Development Academy (VEDA) in Redmond and Abhinay Fine Arts.

(Exhibit Preview)

Wednesday May 11, 2011, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Roenoff’s first memories as a young child are memories of drawing. His parents had grown up as farmers and ranchers in Colorado and Wyoming and he spent younger days exploring family farms and the outdoors, capturing places and objects of affection in drawings and paintings that were part of his daily life.

“Everywhere I look, I see a painting. I have a great appreciation for the light, texture, and geometry that occur in nature and in life. All places, people, and things have inherent beauty. A rustic old truck, desolate place, or busy main street can emit peace, beauty, and a sense of place. Capturing the light, texture, and geometry of everyday life is my artistic ambition”.

Rosenoff paints with a palette knife because it gives him the opportunity to interact with paint in a very tactile, expressionistic way, thick and luscious with a buttery texture. Each viewer of his art is able to gain a strong sense of my physical interaction with the paint, with every stroke and manipulation visible forever. The surfaces of his paintings are very telling, sometimes resembling a mosaic of palette knife strokes. Never muddy, but clean and color conscious.

As an artist, he am inspired by prominent contemporary Italian masters Marco Sassone and Nicola Simbari, and more recently master oil painters Gregory Packard and Louisa McElwain.
