Bellevue Superintendent Dr. Amalia Cudeiro has formally notified the Bellevue School Board of her intention not to seek a renewal of her three year contract with the District. The notification comes approximately six weeks after Cudeiro took a family medical leave to support her mother, a stroke victim battling cancer living in California. Cudeiro’s contract with the District expires June 30, 2012. Under the terms of her contract, Cudeiro is required to notify the Board of her intent whether to seek contract renewal. The Superintendent has notified the Board and has requested that the Board accept her resignation effective January 31.

“I am saddened to receive this notice, but understand Amalia has to do what is in the best interest of her family at this time,” said School Board President Paul Mills. “While Amalia led the District, she kept the Board briefed of her family situation in California and her decision to take a family medical leave was not a surprise to us. I think most people can appreciate how difficult it can be to help a parent with medical issues and we support her decision.”

During Cudeiro’s medical leave, Assistant Superintendent Eva Collins has served as Interim Superintendent. Collins has agreed to continue as Interim Superintendent while the Board discusses a next step.

Charles Smith Wines recently announced that Madeline Dow has joined the company to oversee events and public relations. In this new position, Dow will be based in Seattle, Washington, and will be tasked to increase national and international awareness of both Charles Smith and his wines.

“When I became aware that Madeline may be available, I jumped at the chance and immediately created a position to bring her on-board. That is how important I feel she is to the Washington wine industry. Madeline comes from the Washington State Wine Commission and brings with her great integrity and a wealth of knowledge of Washington wine regionally, nationally and internationally. All I can say is 2012 is going to be a VERY exciting year!” said owner and winemaker Charles Smith.

Dow spent six years with the Commission as Marketing Manager, and helped coordinate the Washington Wine Restaurant Awards, Washington Wine Month programs, the 20something–the new vintage event and other national and international marketing campaigns and activities. Raised in the wine industry, Dow comes to the team with a global wine palate from her father, Peter Dow, owner of Cavatappi Winery and founder of importer/distributor Cavatappi Distribuzione, both in Seattle, Washington.

“I’m really excited to work with Charles and bring some of my creative marketing elements to the table. I’ve always admired the wines and had great respect for his approach and I look forward to hitting the ground running in this new position.” Dow said.

Charles Smith Wines, based in Walla Walla, Washington, includes the brands K Vintners, Charles Smith Wines, The Charles Smith Family, Charles & Charles and Secco. In 2009 Food & Wine Magazine recognized Charles Smith as “Winemaker of the Year” and in 2010 Seattle Magazine honored him with “Winemaker of the Year”.

At the end of November, Sammamish, Wash., residents Scott and Rochelle Juetten once again became the owners of the Bellevue FASTSIGNS sign and graphics center. Located at 13279 NE 20th St., the Juettens opened the Bellevue FASTSIGNS in December 1990 and later opened another location in Seattle. Over the next 17 years, the couple built both centers into two of the most successful FASTSIGNS centers in the country. “In 2007, Scott and I decided to sell both locations so that we could pursue other business opportunities and also spend more time with our two children,” said Rochelle. “Recently, the Bellevue location became available and we jumped at the opportunity.” To help the Juettens in their endeavor, Summer Stumpf will be returning to fill the senior sales consultant role and help with the day to day management of the business. Additionally, Dina Kotschevar will continue her role in project management and customer service. Together, the team will provide a full range of sign and graphics solutions to area businesses, organizations and events, including banners, site and architectural signs, window and floor graphics, safety and identification signage, trade show displays, vehicle graphics, mobile websites and much more. “We feel very lucky to have both Dina and Summer on our team,” said Scott. “Between them, Dina and Summer have over 20 years of experience working in this center and we are confident that they, along with the rest of our team, will continue to exceed our customer’s expectations when it comes to our service and our products.” The couple says that, in the near future, they hope to expand the center’s business by adding to its product offering and capabilities. “With the changes that have occurred in the sign and graphics industry in the past four years, there are a lot of opportunities for us to offer new and exciting products to our customers,” explained Rochelle. “As it was in the past, our main priority is still ensuring that we solve our customers’ marketing challenges in ways that will get their businesses noticed.” FASTSIGNS helps businesses, organizations and events solve their visual communications and marketing challenges—large and small. From the simple… to the simply impossible. The Bellevue FASTSIGNS sign and graphics center provides consulting, file transfer, design, production, delivery and installation for a full range of custom sign and graphics solutions.

Pushing Boundaries, a local non-profit organization providing intensive exercise therapy to people with paralysis, announced the passing of their beloved co-founder, Allan Northrup on November 11, 2011. He was 70.

“The staff, friends, and clients of Pushing Boundaries have lost a tremendous advocate for the improvement of life with paralysis through exercise therapy. We are all greatly saddened by the loss of our friend and visionary, Allan Northrup,” said Executive Director Tricia Lazzar. “We will always remember Allan as a lighthearted, caring, funny and devoted person. He always had a smile on his face that brought joy to all who knew him. The community has lost a true friend and wonderful person.”

The staff, friends, and clients of Pushing Boundaries are forever indebted to the vision and passion Al had for others in our community.

A celebration of life will be held January 7, 2012. For more information please visit www.flintofts.com who will be arranging the event.
