Look Out San Diego? City of Renton Launches It’s First Comic Con

RenconEmbracing the growing geek culture across the nation and with a desire to connect with the millennial South end populace that tend to migrate to Seattle and Bellevue, the Renton Chamber of Commerce launches an unprecedented Chamber event. Renton will see its first comic convention.

RenCon takes place Friday through Sunday, October 28 – 30th, at the Red Lion Hotel, Renton. Tickets can be purchased at: www.gorenton.com. The Chamber has partnered with 8-Bit Arcade and will launch a pre-party event on Thursday where Con attendees can come buy badges and meet some of the attending guests.

Promotion for RenCon began back in August when the Renton Chamber of Commerce, Renton Downtown Partnership and Renton Municipal Arts Commission partnered with the 501st Titan Garrison for monthly downtown Storm Trooper guarded clean ups. The 501st will have a heavy presence and photo opportunities at RenCon.

Juan Mas and Jason McKee, directors of multiple episodes of SyFy Channel hit series Z Nation, actor Lisa Coronado, best known for her role as Dr. Merch in the Z Nation series, and Holden Goyette the young phenom playing the role of 10K will lead a Z Nation themed day on Sunday. Including panels, autographs, and a screening of their episodes from season 3.

Programming this year includes panels focusing on Cosplay, Larping, Visual FX, and talks given by industry Celebrities, Artists and Authors. Other events include a Cosplay Contest, an interactive fantasy sculpting demonstration featuring internationally recognized sculptor Kim Beaton, A Halloween Dance Party with local DJ’s DJ Derdeesanches and DJ Expression, Gaming galore –  free to play arcade games from 8-bit arcade, Magic: The Gathering tournaments as well as board games hosted by Emerald City Games & Comics. There is fun for all ages.

Up to a 1,000 people are expected to attend RenCon, overflowing into downtown Renton, over Halloween weekend, with events and activities happening at Renton Civic Theatre, 8-bit arcade, and even the Library.
