Bellevue Youth Symphony Orchestra Announces New Concert Season, Sponsored Again by Kennelly Keys Music

bellevue-youth-symphony-orchestra-bysoBellevue Youth Symphony Orchestra has announced its 2016–17 concert season theme, Creative Collaborations. The exchange of ideas and inspiration between music and other art forms down through the centuries has resulted in many exquisite compositions, and Bellevue Youth Symphony Orchestra is excited to share some of these with audiences this season.

Along with other delightful works, BYSO’s Masterworks I concert (coming up soon on November 6) will present music from West Side Story, a 20th-century retelling of Romeo and Juliet. This popular Broadway musical exemplifies collaboration between art forms, combining Shakespeare’s drama, Jerome Robbins’ choreography, Stephen Sondheim’s libretto, and Leonard Bernstein’s music. Masterworks II (March 12, 2017) will showcase the winner of BYSO’s annual Concerto Competition, demonstrating the exciting synergy of collaboration between soloist and orchestra. Masterworks III (May 15, 2017) will bring musical selections from Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet Fantasy ballet along with a taste of the collaborative genius behind movie music, represented by John Williams’ score to the recent blockbuster Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Bellevue Youth Symphony Orchestra’s 2016–17 Showcase, Highlight, and Overture concert series will feature BYSO’s other eight ensembles also performing works on the Creative Collaborations theme. Selections programmed for the upcoming November 6 and 7 concerts include A Midsummer Night’s Dream, by Felix Mendelssohn; Waltz of the Flowers, from Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker; Ramon Aquabella’s Danse Espagnole; Prokofiev’s Lieutenant Kije Suite; and Two Scenes from the Hollow, by Kirt Mosier, based on The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Links to performance repertoire lists for all upcoming BYSO concerts are available at www.byso.org/concerts/schedule.

BYSO is pleased to announce that its 2016–17 concert season is generously underwritten by Kennelly Keys Music, Inc.
